It was just Ok for me.

I'm bored with Ben myself. I think he was thoughtless & selfish for what he did to Dahlia & his family. This was kinda a pity party for Ben trying to get back to where he once was & wanted to be. Hoping Frayed will finally put this to rest w/S'Belle. But now he's playing with fire again.

I love, love, love Kim Karr's Connections Series. River Wilde is to die for in Connected and Torn. Then there was Jagger in Dazed......swoon......next we got to read Xander Wilde's story in Mended.....and oh how I loved Xander, but...the one guy I was never crazy about was Ben Covington. Now you'll have to read the story to understand who Ben is, what role he plays, and what he does and has done. Well, Blurred has totally changed my mind about Ben. I loved the way Kim Karr gives her readers insight into Ben's side of the story....and well, Ben is definitely a hottie. He's pretty much hit rock bottom in this novella, but things begin to look up and I cannot wait to read more of his story in Frayed. Now while all the hot guys in this series are just "YUMMY," they wouldn't be who they are without their leading ladies, all of which I loved and rooted for, and could more than hold their own against these Wilde men.
Romance that is sizzling hot, guys that will melt your panties right off of you, and stories that keep you captivated from beginning to end.......The Connection Series by Kim Karr has it all. Check it out. I hope you love it as much as I do.

Ben Covington had it all and then lost it. One decision changed his life. He faked his death and left everything behind to keep his fiancé safe from a drug cartel. I’m sure you know the story if you have read the other books in the Connected series. If you are reading this review, you are probably curious to see if it’s worth it to pick up this novella…my answer is YES!

In Blurred, we finally get to learn Ben’s backstory as well his thoughts on the aftermath that ensued when he came back from the dead. Ben’s life turned into a blur, and this novella gives us Ben’s story through his eyes. His poor choices caused some gut-wrenching emotional damage for others, but now we get to see the real Ben. I always wondered what Ben was thinking and feeling…was he just a cheater frat boy just trying to catapult his career or was there something more?

“I don’t even know who I am anymore. I’m alone and left to pick up the pieces to a life I don’t have. Rock bottom. It’s a phrase I never thought I’d use to describe myself, but it’s the only one that fits.”

Ben is such an important character in this series, and he deserved his own POV book. Blurred doesn’t regurgitate the other books via his POV…but provides the insight into his decisions that affected every character in this series.

I was lucky to receive and read Frayed (Connections #4). I am not going to spoil anything here, but I will say to Connections fans…that you want to read Blurred. Frayed picks up where Blurred left off. Once again Kim is going to take you on an emotional road trip and you will get to see how everyone is this series is Connected…Get ready for Kim Karr blow you away with this one.

About the Author

Soraya M. Coley is president of Cal Poly Pomona University. Prior to that she served as provost and vice president for academic affairs at California State University Bakersfield, and at Alliant International University, as well as dean of the College of Human Development and Community Service at California State University, Fullerton. She has nearly 30 years of higher education experience and has worked with nonprofits, community-based and civic organizations on program design, evaluation, and grant writing.  

Cynthia Scheinberg is a licensed clinical psychologist with over 24 years of administrative management in non-profit agencies. She has served as the Executive Director of the Coalition for Children, Adolescents and Parents (CCAP) in Orange, California, as Senior Vice President of Clinical Services for Anka Behavioral Health, Inc., and as the Executive Director of New Connections in Concord, California. She has a doctorate in clinical psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute in Santa Barbara, California. Dr. Scheinberg also has a part-time private practice in Concord, CA.

Proposal Writing

The book is an easy to follow guide to proposal writing. It's small and not intimidating. It's also easy to read. As a first time grant writer, I found it useful and plan on keeping it for future grants. Definitely recommend for first time grant writers.

I got this in graduate school and 10 years later I am still using this book. Its a really useful little book with very simple and logical instructions and guidance. I have written many successful grants in the public health field, and always go back to this gem. Considering getting her new book.

Hot, Smart...and then some... Wow!

The third book of the KAGE trilogy puts a luscious cherry atop what is one of the most riveting male/male romance series that I have ever read. If you have not read these books, run, don’t walk, and get them. You will not be disappointed. Mixed martial arts fighter Kage is the ultimate mix of alpha, intrigue, and hotness, and college cutie Jamie is the personification of luscious boy-next-door with pluck. When these two laid eyes on each other sparks ignited and author Maris Black fanned the resulting flame into a fiery inferno of profound romance that is hotter than a Molotov cocktail. I could do nothing but keep turning the pages, muttering “Duh-am…”

This latest book finds Kage and Jamie confronting Kage’s personal demons and outing themselves to Jamie’s family and friends. The events are not without complications as Kage’s villainous uncle finally shows his true face. I’m not one to write spoilers so I’ll just speak on what makes this book just as sensational and dizzyingly perfect as the previous two.

For one, the pacing is dynamic; there are no wasted words. From the dialogue through the mesmerizing behind-the-scene glimpses of the world of MMA fighting, each episode contained the appropriate amount of stimulation to make my heart rev a little faster with anticipation. Events play out at a good clip, but grant Kage and Jamie plenty of time to convey a full range of believable emotions that made me love these well-developed characters even more.

Secondly, all of the love scenes are just that, love scenes. From the lust-induced, rock hard, visceral sex scenes to the couple’s playful teasing encounters, the language and events are doused in the sweetness of romance. This is lovemaking at its best… Kage and Jamie were falling deeply in love and with each scintillating scene I felt privileged to experience their joy. And perhaps that’s the secret of this series’ success…you get to experience falling in love again and again.

And lastly, kudos to the author for getting the nuances of the fight game correct and showing restraint in sharing overmuch. Excellent research and skillful information weaving translated into wonderful vignettes of color that put a lovely stamp of masculinity on the story and added a tangible blood-sweat-and-bone note that is the true essence of the fight game. Grounded in authentic details, a fighter’s diet, making weight for a fight, the press conferences, and the adrenaline overload, the love story of Kage and Jamie plays out beautifully and the end is to-die-for. This is definitely a not to be missed story and series. I almost envy a new-to-the-series reader’s awaiting journey, but—yet another gift—the books are eminently rereadable!

Ahhhh! That ending! I am in love all over again with this series. Kage you are a boss! I loved that last chapter so much! There is no way that I can see it as the ending when really it was an epic beginning!

Now, there were some parts that were totally sad to read. I cannot imagine what Kage must have felt, about everything he went through in life. He is such a strong man to be able to just keep living and doing what he loves (including Jamie lol) to know he was manipulated so badly by his uncle was surreal. How could a man be so horrible to his nephew? To control him in every aspect, to try and force him to live a life of unhappiness just because it didn't fit with his plan was sickening. I was so glad when he was out of the picture.

Jamie as always was so adorable, I was happy to read how comfortable he was with Kage now that they were finally reunited how they were supposed to be. Daddy Atwood still takes the cake as my favourite family member. And I was so happy to read that Daddy Atwood gave Kage the "talk" .... Sigh how adorable.

Now I just want to read about them all married with kids, or dogs or even gold fish. Their lives are really only now beginning and I am so happy for them. At the end of this book, it definitely put a smile on my face (after the roller coaster of emotions that is lol) I loved it. 5 beautiful stars!

Wow. This went somewhere I didn't expect. Put all three books together and it's an intense action movie. Couldn't put it down and I'm still processing some of it, kind of can't believe parts of it. At the center, though, remains Jamie and Kage and their obsessive need and love for each other. Leaves you breathless.

Dear Mr. Darcy

I can't seem to get enough of Pride and Prejudice and have read over 75 fan fic books relating to the original. I don't mind some sexual content, but detest books that have been written so that explicit sex seems to be the main content of the book. Fortunately this book is not one of those. I gave it 3 stars because I found it is not witty or clever enough to rate higher. It is simply written and straight forward. Darcy's conversation with Mr. Bennet is interesting. The last third of the book is better than the first two thirds.

Please Let This Be the Start of Another Splendid Series!

In a style similar to Jane Austen's Lady Susan and the first draft of Sense and Sensibility (Elinor and Marianne), bestselling Austenseque author, Amanda Grange's newest novel, Dear Mr. Darcy, retells Pride and Prejudice in epistolary form. Want to see what Darcy wrote to his cousins while living at Netherfield? Observe the Bennet sisters' correspondence with their friends, the Sotherton sisters? Witness the letters sent to and from Mr. and Mrs. Bingley and their children? Amanda Grange enables readers the opportunity to see all this and more in her illuminating and brilliantly executed Dear Mr. Darcy.

What I loved most about this retelling was the numerous and diverse list correspondents readers witness exchanging letters throughout the course of the novel. Besides Elizabeth and Darcy, readers observe the communications between Wickham and his cohorts, Mrs. Bennet and Mrs. Gardiner, Anne de Bourgh and Georgiana Darcy, and Mr. Darcy Senior and his son Fitzwilliam amongst many others. These characters help give a thorough illustration of everything that takes place in Pride and Prejudice by portraying the events through their varied and unique perspectives. After a major event, such as the Netherfield Ball or Lizzy's refusal of Mr. Collins, it was interesting (and amusing) to see the differing and detailed accounts recorded by several different characters.

Another aspect I took great pleasure was Ms. Grange new creations, the Sotherton sisters and the Bingley parents. The Sotherton sisters are three sisters who are friends with all five Bennet sisters. But because of their father's drinking and gambling problem, they are forced to abscond from their beloved Netherfield Park and retrench to Bath (like the Elliots do in Persuasion). Moreover, in Pride and Prejudice we never meet Mr. and Mrs. Bingley, but we know of their background and ambitions. And while we don't see it taking place in Jane Austen's novel, we could assume that the Bingley siblings were often corresponding with their parents. I enjoyed how Ms. Grange implemented these characters to enhance and flesh out the events of the story. Not only do they enlighten the reader about what is taking place, they are a source of high entertainment as well!

Speaking of entertainment, I cannot believe I am saying this, but my favorite epistler in this novel would have to be Mary Bennet! Mary corresponds with the middle Sotherton sister, Lucy, who is very similar in tastes and disposition to Mary. I just loved witnessing these two exchange letters about their quests to become a "Learned Women," their new tastes in literature, their "books of extracts," and Mr. Shackleton...

Masterful, dynamic, and absorbing - Dear Mr. Darcy is sure to please Janeites who appreciate the art of letter writing and are interested in seeing Pride and Prejudice retold through epistolary form! This reader dearly hopes that Amanda Grange will take up her quill, blotter, and wax sometime soon and gift the Austenesque genre with another Jane Austen novel in epistolary form!

I gave this two stars because although there was a interesting start to the letters it never climaxed well and ended with a thud. No final words from Mr. Darcy, he was gone almost the entire ending. His POV was needed more...and way too much time spent on Mary Bennet's letters (but I guess they were supposed to be the comic relief).

Get this collection and an Official Guide 13th and you are set

I has a chance to review a preview set, and I see a number of meaningful changes in this edition:

- GMAT Roadmap and IR books are now included with this set, making it a total of 10 books
- The Quant books have been improved in terms of layout and structure (though content is mostly the same)
- The Verbal books have undergone a pretty significant improvement in terms of content (still analyzing the changes; check back in a few days for complete analysis)
- Now the series start with Fractions/Decimals/Percents, then go into Algebra, Word Problems, Geometry, and Number Properties. (I feel this is a good improvement - first, it is getting rid of some of the strange names MGMAT used and second, Number Properties was a pretty tough book to use as the first step)

If you are just starting out with GMAT prep - get this bundle; it's a good deal for the Manhattan GMAT Guides (separately they cost close to $150). These books don't emphasize tricks or easy ways to 700+ score, instead they methodically cover areas tested, and should be pretty much all you will need (besides the Official Guides - see below for links). If this is above your budget, then would recommend you pick the best of the pack:
- The GMAT Roadmap Great collection of wisdom (see my review of this book)
- Number Properties Guide (condensed overview of Arithmetic and strategies for saving time/solving questions more effectively)
- Word Propblems Guide (includes some of the hardest topics - probability, combinations, and statistics)
- Sentence Correction (the best book out there on SC)
- Critical Reasoning (only second to PowerScore CR but by a slim margin)
- Reading Comprehension (there are no other dedicated RC books on market really)
Between these 5 books you should have 80-90% of the GMAT covered and the rest could be picked up from the remaining books and practice with the Official Guides. You can throw in a Kaplan Premier as well - a good intro to GMAT book with 6 free GMAT Tets. It is a good starter book to get your feet wet, but definitely not a must.

To make the most use out of the MGMAT guides, you will need the Official Guide 13th and also OG Verbal 2nd and OG Quant 2nd editions are recommended. The guides refer to these 3 books for additional practice questions. If you own previous versions of the Official Guide books, you can use those too with a translation table available from MGMAT's website.
*** Each book comes with access to 6 online gmat tests and additional question banks. Don't spend money on these as they are pricey ($40 for 6 tests on the MGMAT website).

Also, if you are new to the GMAT, download 2 official practice tests from GMAC and take one of them before you start prepping to get your level - very helpful to track your progress along the way but don't waste these tests - they use real retired gmat questions and though it is possible to recycle them (there are close to 900 questions in the banks), would recommend you use something less valuable for your practice such as MGMAT tests included with these books).

One more thing, don't rush into questions and tests - you will only hurt your self confidence, instead methodically cover each math and verbal topic and only after you are done with each of the sections move on to take the tests (take math only after you are done with math and verbal only after done with verbal). Final word of advice - the main mistake (esp in verbal) is not following strategies. Whichever books or strategies you use (they are all pretty similar between MGMAT, PowerScore, and Kaplan) - follow them EXACTLY. These people are getting big bucks to develop methods to improve score and maximize performance - don't try to be smarter and change things around. Unless you are scoring 750+, I would follow each step of the strategy to the "T". If the book says to read the CR question twice, then that's what you do even though it may seem that it is faster to read it once - trust me, there is a reason why you read it twice. If you want to get 700+ and not worry about the GMAT, stick to the strategies and keep creativity low.

Excellent if you have time to invest

I created my amazon account just to be able to express my thanks and review this product. The Manhattan GMAT series is very thorough, expanding on all the relevant concepts to an appropriate level of depth. Studying for 7-9 weeks on a daily basis (approx. 2 hours/day) allowed me to raise my initial practice score results of around 640 to around 740. The questions on the final exam are comparable and I managed to hit 730. I'm sure I couldn't have done this without these books which were much more helpful than the more simple Kaplan alternatives. If you have time to invest in studying the GMAT (1-3 months), buy this set along with the 13th edition official guide (which you NEED to answer the end of section questions of Manhattan).

Wonderful Review Set, and Definitely Will Get You Geared In Focused!

I can't harp on the necessity to prepare for the GMAT as it is essential to at least review its contents in order to attain a solid score. The setup in this book is very straightforward, as the explanations and tips are stout. Go for it, you won't regret it as the cost more than makes up for having your very own "course-at-home."

But, I advise you: you have to be disciplined. I'll say it again, and this time in CAPS: YOU HAVE TO BE DISCIPLINED.

I prepared for about around 8 weeks, taking 10 CATS, and along with OG's Review --- while spending around 3 hours per day (non-stop, as this is a great endurance build-up strategy), and I scored a 670 on my test. This was after scoring a 480, three months prior.

You can do it! Just get this set, and the OG Review questions, and you'll be well on your way to knocking out the most annoying part of the MBA process! Go for it, it'll even improve your skill sets for future business employment.

Tsung Hwa Jou has a rare gift for explaining the most complicated and complex matters with simple words and allegories. He literally paints high-contrast pictures with his words building a bridge between Chinese and Western culture.

A down-to-earth-how-to guide to understanding and mastering the principles of meditation, regardless tecnique but with emphasis on Chinese meditation styles.

Probably the best book on Taoism & Meditation for beginners.

This is surely one of the best books on Enlightenment, Taoism and Meditation for the beginner that I have ever seen. Although, don't get me wrong, it is a must for anyone interested in these subjects. It gives many new insights, all with a clear explanation. The author gives out the goods on enlightenment and why meditation is so important. He describes the subject with a westerner's scientific point of view and equates enlightenment as the understanding of Reality Without Time (to see as a fourth dimensional being can see). To perceive all time in one moment. He gives the reasons why meditation is the best vehicle to understanding and spells everything out with sound logic. There is a thorough guide to meditation, with basic instructions on Chi Kung exercises, transfer of Ching to Chi (Lien Ching Hwa Chi), transfer of Chi to Shen (Lien Chi Hwa Shen) and Proceed from Shen to Void (Lien Shen Hwan Shiu). This book is truly full of many grand arguments, wise sayings, stories and is a vast source of inspiration. I highly recommend it.
